Our Thoughts on the Whole Briere-Giroux Thing Going On Right Now

If you're a Philly sports fan, I'm sure you've heard about this. But if not, here's the short version of the story: Danny Briere recently got divorced from his wife. They share custody of their three young sons, Caelan (12), Carson (11), and Cameron (9). Cute names, Danny. Meanwhile, across town, Claude Giroux found himself living in an apartment alone, not part of the party crew of Richie and Carter, and not a family man like the elder Flyers. So Danny, 33, asked Claude, 23, if he wanted to move in with he and the boys. His reasoning? "It'll be less lonely and we can do things together." I couldn't make this shit up if I tried. Since moving in, Claude and the boys have hit it off, playing pool and video games together, and Claude even picks them up from school and hockey practice, even helping coach sometimes.

I hope we're not alone in thinking they need to get some fucking reality TV cameras in there. It's like a real life mix between Three Men and a Baby and the classic '90s family sitcoms. But after watching this weekend's All-Star festivities (see TinJ's article), we came up with a different theory. Consider this:

Before they moved in together, Briere was a married veteran, playing alongside the skilled but lacking experience Giroux. They don't usually play on the same line, but probably admire each others' similar playing style, a mixture of dirty stick skills, lightning fast speed, and passes that make the Blessed Virgin Mary blush.

Then Danny extends the invitation to Claude to move in. Claudey thought about it over the offseason, and moved in sometime during the fall. Things were going smoothly at first, and they really hit it off. And one night, things got physical. I don't wanna get into details, and I don't really wanna picture it, but it's kinda plausible. If you watched the skills competition or the draft portion of the All-Star game, you would've noticed the coy glances and little grins they were shooting at each other, especially when Claude got picked right before Danny.

I don't wanna start a "are they or aren't they" type rumor here. But just take a look at some of these photos. By the way, no judgement here. I fully support them in any endeavor they choose, they're Flyers goddamnit, I stick with you no matter what. And as Dennis Reynolds would say, "to each his own."

  2. WHO CARES?! If they are, they are, if they're not, they're not! What gives you the right to pry into their private life?

  3. I agree with Miss Anon #2. It's none of our business, and what they choose to do with their lives is for them to decide, and for them to do.

  8. OKAY, I usually don't comment on these things, more or a lurker but I had a few things to say.

First off: this is a great article. It's funny, teasing and supportive at the same time. I really enjoy reading articles like these, so well written, so thank you for writing this. And the same goes for the Second Anon, Lauren, and Sister Kate commenters. In the end, it doesn't really matter what they choose to do or not, so long as they're happy it's cool. They have a right to their privacy and happiness. If we're really fans, we can just support them and hope they're happy.

SECOND: I find it very sad that Anon #1's love to Danny Briere is directly linked to his sexuality/love life.

THIRD: Second to Last Anon, saying someone being gay is a waste for women is the same as saying that same person being straight is a waste for men. Men who like other men exist, you shouldn't ignore them.

FOURTH: Last Anon and Breathe. I just wanted to say that there is such a thing as bisexuality and that sexual orientation is fluid and can change.

On the overall, I'm sorry if I upset someone with this, just wanted to share my views. I was really amused my this article, it's a fun and witty piece and some of the comments are really positive, but some are really upsetting. I felt the need to say something about it.
